Plane forced to fly back to Subang

PETALING JAYA: A Firefly flight to Kuala Terengganu returned to the Subang airport shortly after take-off because the flight captain noticed an irregularity in one of the engine’s functions.

Flight FY3210 carrying 48 passengers departed at 12.40pm yesterday. When the captain noticed the irregularity, he decided to return to Subang at 1pm.

The airline said in a statement that passengers were provided with snacks and refreshments before they were transferred to another Firefly aircraft to Kuala Terengganu. The plane left at 4.35pm.

Firefly’s managing director Eddy Leong apologised to the passengers for the disruption. “We wish to stress that passenger safety is our top priority and we will not compromise this aspect in our operations at all times,” he said.

Leong did not say what the “engine function irregularity” was.

click here to read about the on-hand experience of a friend’s brother who was on that flight. Summary is that BOTH engines of the plane went kaput and the plane had to GLIDE back to the airport, landing heavily and bursting tyres on the runway. Passengers were kept with minimum information – claiming it was an electrical problem on a new plane! (when it’s not a new plane) and no refreshments were provided when the passengers were ushered to another flight some 3hrs later.

i know Adrian, i’ve met him. this incident (and perhaps many more) really raise some doubts to using MAS over AirAsia. but then again, i’m sure AirAsia has their own sad stories to share.

Malaysia Boleh!

The lack of transparency in ‘boleh-lah’ in all aspects of government and corporate governance is truly alarming and sad.
